46. Haha. This is funny. Eunsung was calling Yehwon, she’s asleep and so is her mom. (Did I say before that Yehwon’s mom looks like Sammi Cheng? Hehe. And for a while, I thought her mom’s sleeping with her spatula. Haha.) The phone rings and they both reach for the phone and say, “Hello?” Eunsung hearing two voices didn’t talk back. Basically, Yehwon and mom talk on the phone extensions, they’re at the same house! Eunsung, who was just listening on the other line, laughs at them. What a loon!
The conversation is funny so I’ll quote.
Mom -> Hello? Who’s this?
Yehwon -> It’s me, your daughter. Where are you Mom?
Mom -> What? Are you going crazy? Where are you?
Yehwon -> I’m home.
Mom -> (yelling at the phone) Home? I’m home! Did you drink or something? Come home right now!
Yehwon -> (looks at the phone) What’s she talking about?
Both hang up. Eunsung looks err, never mind.
47. This is just cute. Eunsung actually is taking care of rabbit Eunsung. He takes him to work and talks to him, “Eunsung. Good to be outside huh? Wait for a while, they’ll pay me double tonight. I’ll feed you when I’m done. Don’t fall asleep.” So cute. Just the fact that he calls the rabbit, Eunsung is cute. Jjang Eunsung taking care of a cute little bunny.
48. Eunsung is working when he gets a call from one of his seniors that his girlfriend is with them, they’re drinking. (Yehwon went there with Hot Hansung oppah.) In the gathering, Yehwon tells Hansung that she’ll leave, not long after, Eunsung arrives and yells at Yehwon to get her ass out. He’s basically mad because Yehwon’s with the man he hates the most – Hot Kim Hansung. (And I really have to add hot before his name…) Other seniors are pissed at him already because he’s too rude. He’s about to grab Yehwon when Hansung stops his arm and reminds him that he’s still his senior. (Does everyone get it? Koreans are very respectful to seniors. I learned while reading this novel that when students are fighting, you should get someone senior at the school to stop them, like when Hansung and Eunsung were fighting, Seungpyo (Yehwon’s bro) was called to stop the fight because he’s a graduate of that school.) Eunsung replies, “Yehwon’s my girl. Don’t forget that.” A senior punches Eunsung and he was about to fight back when Yehwon stands in front of her and slaps her. Eunsung cant believe what she just did. (Gah, he’s scary here. even I wouldn’t mess with him with that face. He looks so hot with his bloody mouth though. J)
49. The following day, Yehwon sits in front of Eunsung’s house waiting for him. Yehwon was trying to explain to him that she just did that to stop him from fighting with his seniors but he wont listen. (She kept mentioning Hansung oppah, Hansung oppah, but it didn’t say in the translation, but of course you can hear Yehwon saying it.) So Eunsung tells her, “I don’t wanna hear that name.” Yehwon was still trying to carry on a conversation with him but he’s so stubborn, he goes, “Ok, fine. Go have fun with him!” Yehwon -> “Fine, you’re always like this…you always…get your way.” (Hot scene: in the midst of their fight, Eunsung diverts his anger on the door of his house. He yells, “Open it.” *ding dong ding dong* -> obviously the sound of the doorbell “Open it! Open the fcuking door!” <There’s a scene in the novel where Yehwon waits for Eunsung in front of his house because she hasn’t seen him for days and he wouldn’t tell him his whereabouts. But that scene is so different from this one, that was a sweet scene. It was funny when she hugged Eunsung and she was so hungry that she began thinking of meat while hugging his flabless stomach.>
Yehwon gets Eunsung’s Sky phone from her pocket and gives it back to him. She then leaves while Eunsung just has his eyes fixed on Yehwon’s retreating back. (Is my description dramatic enough?) Obviously, they broke up again.
50. It’s Yehwon’s birthday and Kyungwon invites her to go the disco but Yehwon’s not in the mood. Meanwhile, Hansung was waiting outside her school. (So HOT!) So she goes with him. (Cute scene: Hansung does magic, turns a rose made of tissue to a real red rose.) They then go to drink together. Yehwon asks Hansung why Eunsung hates him so much. (This girl’s probably drank already so she mustered up the courage to ask him.) Hansung then tells her because Yehwon threatened to drink herself to dearth. (Okay, this might not be the real reason why he spoke up. Lol.) Here’s a brief kwento why: There’s this guy named Haebin, (remember, he’s been mentioned once by Floppy) he’s Hansung’s best friend and Eunsung looks up to him. The 3 of them are together all the time. One day, they went to a beach, Hansung and Eunsung are playing when they can’t see Haebin anymore. He’s drowning already, (the waves are really huge! Why do I sound unbelievable?) Eunsung wants to save him but Hansung stops him because if he does, he’ll drown as well. After Haebin died, Eunsung hated Hansung because he blamed him for Haebin’s death, he said he could’ve saved Haebin if Hansung didn’t stop him. (Gah, I’m getting confused with the names!) Back to present:
Yehwon -> Is that why he went out with Hyobin? Just to get back at you?
Hansung -> Haebin like Hyobin a lot and she liked Eunsung. Just like you like Eunsung and I like you.
Yehwon was drinking when he was saying this and when he said, “I like you”, she choked and almost spit what she drank. (see 4th pic, her reaction is funny)
Yehwon -> What? You…like me? God, it’s a love triangle. This is nothing but a comedy! (Here, I almost thought she was going to say her line with, “Wen I rini, wen I rini!” Haha. Darn, I miss Nonstop.)
<In the novel, it was Seungpyo (Yehwon’s brother, I always have to indicate because Floppy’s name is also Seungpyo. Well, I don’t use Seungpyo on him, anyways) who first told her about Haebin, but he didn’t get to the point because he passed out from being drunk. The one who told Yehwon everything, the whole truth and nothing but the truth is another Hot Hyunsung.>
Meanwhile, Eunsung is at a jewelry shop (getting couple rings), he spots what he wants and the saleslady asks him what size. Eunsung thinks and he tells the girl, “Can I see your hand?” Confused, the saleslady lent her hand, Eunsung locked hands with her to measure the size of Yehwon’s finger. (Just like what she did with Yehwon before, see #29, when he told her she has huge hands, like of bear’s feet.) Isn’t that just cute? (Actually, this happens after Hansung’s magic thingy and before Yehwon and Hansung’s drinking session but I decided to join all Hansung scenes together and separate Eunsung’s so it’ll ruin my screencapping. Hehe.)
Argh this is cute. Yehwon is drunk already so he carries her on his back (aka the ever famous piggyback, but it still gets to me every time, I wanna be piggybacked too! not by my dad, please. I WOULD LOVE TO BE PIGGYBACKED BY A 6’4 GUY LIKE KIM HANSUNG! This guy’s freaking tall! Just my type. Haha. Ok, on with the narration.)
Yehwon -> If I go out with you, will you be nice to me? And buy me lots of presents?
Hansung -> What present do you want?
Yehwon -> Eunsung.
Hansung -> Not a person.
Yehwon -> His picture.
Hansung -> How about clothes?
Yehwon -> Eunsung’s underwear. (I want too!) Hansung…I have to go pee. (Gah, I thought she was going to say something important!)
They arrive in front of Yehwon’s house, Hansung confesses to an asleep Yehwon. (or so he thought.)
Hansung -> Yehwon, you know what? At your brother’s graduation, wearing a red coat, you were so pretty. You were stuck on your brother like a magnet. It snowed a lot that day, I followed you around to talk to you. I ended up slipping on the snow. On the first snowfall, this winter, I wanted to buy you a present…See you again.
Hansung stands up and walks away. Yehwon opens her eyes and looks at his retreating back. While Eunsung was actually behind another wall, Hansung walked past him but he didn’t notice. Eunsung saw him though. (I like the shot of their love triangle, Yehwon on the left, Hansung in the middle and Eunsung on the right.)
<In the novel, that’s exactly how their conversation went – until Eunsung’s underwear but I think Hansung didn’t confess that way to Yehwon.>
51. Eunsung sits on a bench and watches the short clip Yehwon filmed showing her room. (See #34)
52. OMG OMG! Here comes my super duper favorite scene of this entire movie! In school, Eunsung gets out of his room hecka mad, he’s on his way to the senior’s room. (He looks hecka hot!) He has one mission: get it all even with Kim Hansung. He doesn’t care about anyone or anything stopping him. He finally gets to Hansung, he asks him, “Should I beat you here or outside?” (-> Hot!) Hansung -> “Outside.” (Man, why is he so obedient?)
Dugdugdug. This is such a HOT scene! Two hot guys, beating the crap out of each other…IN THEIR HIGH SCHOOL UNIFORMS!!! (Anne Atienza, wipe that drool off your face!) My reaction: “Gawd, haba ng hair ni Yehwon!” (I made a GIF na lang because it would take a lot of pics, although some discolorization happened, darn. It’s kinda hard to caps the part where they’re really punching each other, so just the aftermath ie: when they’s faces are thrown sideways because of a punch or when they’re thrown to the floor. Hehe.) Basta, this is a HOT scene, my favorite scene in this movie. Oh oh, (-> me getting excited) especially when Hansun took off her jacket!!! They look oh so freakin hot I can’t even breathe and I’m having arrhythmia with they bloody face and cut lips. Hai…this all started with Bahn Haewon! (Ok, I’ve said that. So fights excite me now? I’m like Choi Danbi -> Hehe, she’s a character in the internet novel I’ve read, The Naïve Iljeen Guy.)
53. Hyunsung tells Yehwon that Eunsung’s going to America, she’s like, “Bo?” (What?) He also explains that to buy her a present for her birthday, he worked his ass off at the construction site. He gives her the present (ring), with it is the portrait of the girl he was drawing before (see #45). Of course, our Yehwon cries to death. <In the novel, Hyunsung told Yehwon all about Haebin here. It’s so funny though, did they ever mentioned in the movie that it was Yehwon’s birthday? That scene was probably left in the cutting room floor, so audiences who didn’t read the novel were probably confused why Eunsung suddenly started working at the construction.>
54. Eunsung is sitting in the beach where Haebin drowned. Soon after, Hyunsung joins him. They lie on the sand opposite each other. Eunsung takes out a necklace that belonged to Haebin, she tells Hansung, “Keep it from now on.” Hansung -> (with his bloody mouth) “Haebin must be happy that we’re cool again.” Eunsung -> “Hansung, Yehwon is a sweet girl…” He’s kind of leaving Yehwon to him. Yehwon’s VO: “Just like that, Eunsung left…without even saying goodbye.”
55. One year later, Yehwon meets with Hansung. No they’re not a couple. Hansung is really just a close oppah. He gives her an ax that will serve as a good luck charm for her college entrance exam. <They mentioned here that Kim Hyobin got anew boyfriend, but in the novel, she’s a biotch till the end.>
56. Yehwon was having her college entrance exam, it was an English exam. They were listening to an audio excerpt and they will answer the English questions based from what they heard. The choices in the question included first day of snowfall. She stops and turns to look at the window, it’s snowing. She drops her pencil and as if hypnotized, she stands up which caught the attention of the teacher and her co-examinees. She starts to walk out of the room, Kyungwon stops her but all she said to her was, “Good luck.” She starts running, run, run, run.
To where? The park where the red phone booth is placed. She finds it empty. She walks and the park turns into the fantasyland in her dream. She still didn’t see what she wants to see. She was about to turn around and leave when she noticed something. A rabbit. Eunsung. Rabbit Eunsung. The one she gave Eunsung. (Haha. it was animated.) When she looked up, she sees Eunsung, wearing black. (Waah! So mushesuh!!!) There they are, standing face to face, just like in Yehwon’s dream.
Back to reality…
Yehwon -> You left without saying goodbye. What made you come back? (Eunsung just smiles at her.) Why’d you come back. Tell me.
Eunsung -> Yehwon, A TRUE LOVE REQUIRES NO WORDS.
Yehwon -> cries, Eunsung -> smiles (Gah, stop smiling! I’m going crazy here!) Yehwon runs to her and they hug. *The End*
57. The story behind: On Eunsung’s 7th birthday when no one dares kiss him because her father died of AIDS, a little girl comes up to her and volunteers to kiss her. She was the only one who did.
Eunsungie -> “You’re so pretty. What’s your name?”
Little Girl -> “I’m… I live in… (Gah, it’s super long, I don’t remember the address anymore, it’s not important anyways.) My name is Han Yehwon.
THE VERDICT:
As you’ve noticed, I already have a lot of comments while narrating. Hehe. Irritating, can’t do anything about it. I’m really like that. I never run out of comments. This is just a continuation of some things I weren’t able to mention yet. I’ve already commented about the characters and the actors playing them in a previous entry but I just have some things to add. It’s funny that Hansung and Hyobin are siblings but they didn’t have one scene in this movie together. Not even one. In the novel, Yehwon saw Hansung first when he was with Hyobin at school. She actually thought he was Hyobin’s boyfriend, until Floppy told her that he’s Hyobin’s brother. When I watched this movie for the 2nd time, I began to appreciate the actor who played Kim Hyunsung. He can actually be cute sometimes. But he really seems hot in the novel. I was disappointed though how Seungpyo, Yehwon’s oppah was taken for granted. He doesn’t have much role but to piss Yehwon from time to time. Yes, he’s really like that in the novel, but he was actually vital on revealing the story behind Haebin, Eunsung and Hansung since he’s an alumna of their high school. I didn’t like Kim Kyung-rok (playing Jungmin) at all. He’s too much of a kid to be included in the cast. In the scene where he’s supposed to defend Yehwon from Eunsung when they were playing Tetris, he looks like a little boy provoking the much taller Song Seung-hun. I think he’s supposed to be a popular guy because I see him in soompi forumers’ banners, but I really don’t like at him at all. Don’t like his bleached hair. For me, he doesn’t even match up to Floppy for Kyungwon. Hmp. I love the guy who played Floppy!!!! Floppy was much more comedy in the novel, but he’s ok naman in the movie. He’s cute. Meanwhile, my favorite Hansung oppah is kind of “nice” in the movie, he doenst seem like the “scary” sunbae in the novel, but nevertheless, he’s freakin hot so I don’t really give a sh*t.
The movie is wholly funny. I like it that they didn’t deviate too much from the dialogues. One thing I like about Guiyeoni’s novels are its dialogues so I’m glad the movie retained most of that. I understand that since the running time of the movie is short, they have to exclude a lot of more funny scenes from the movie or transform it to make it shorter. But the editing hella sucks, dude. Some of the scenes don’t even make sense because of too much cutting. I think I’ve already explained some of that during the “FAVE SCENES” part. Examples: the Miss Ass thing, the part where Eunsung made Yehwon count to 150.
Starting from Disc 2, most of the scenes are made up. Hansung picked Yehwon up from the hospital but that didn’t happen in the novel. I was just disappointed because there were still some very good scenes from the latter half of the novel but weren’t included in the movie. Basically in the novel, the last half focuses on Yehwon confusing between Hansung and Eunsung. Because Eunsung is so secretive about his whereabouts, Yehwon is kind of being drawn closer to Hansung while being drifted apart from Eunsung. The basic premise of the novel is that Yehwon is always the one kissing Eunsung, (remember the first one when she jumped off the wall and the 2nd one in the hospital) during the 3rd one when everything’s cleared up. Eunsung tells Yehwon, “I never kissed you right?” then he kisses her. It was the first time he initiated a kiss between them. But still, there’s Hansung. During the last chapter, Hansung called her to meet him but she’s also to meet Eunsung, so Yehwon has to think who she loves more. The novel ends with 5 years later, she’s now living with Eunsung so basically she chose him. It was really that simple. The novel was comedy till the end. In the movie, they made it dramatic. The writers made up this fantasy of Yehwon’s about the red phone booth in the park, that she had a dream of meeting the guy she loves on the first day of snowfall, wearing black and tells her, “A true love requires no words.” They also made Eunsung go to America, leaving Yehwon for one year. He comes back on the first day of snowfall, wearing black. Yehwon asks him why he came back and he tells her, “Yehwon, a true love requires no words.” Personally, I like the movie’s ending more than the novel’s. I still respect Guiyeoni’s version since it’s very simple, but of course the producers have to give the movie something more to make it commercial.
As I’ve said, my favorite scene of the movie is when Eunsung and Hansung beat the crap out of each other. There was no scene like that in the novel. That scene was freakin hot, I NEEDED A BATHROOM BREAK! I would always repeat that scene from time to time, just because it’s so hot. I so swear, I’d probably like watching fights from now on. But I still cant bring myself to watch boxing matches, they’re boring. I’ll just watch if the fighters are hot. HAha. Even better if they’re in highschool uniforms. Haha. Watching movies and reading internet novels set in high school makes me wanna go back to high school! I actually miss wearing uniforms since we can wear anything in UP. I remember when I was in grade school, I cant wait for days when we can wear casual clothes, not uniforms. But now, it’s the other way around, I want to wear my old uniforms. Huh, I’m really getting old. Seriuoisly, sometimes I feel old at 19. Hai…Maybe I should just go to Korea, at my age, I’m only a junior or senior when I study there. Haha.
